Agave Impressions
This is not my typical photograph. I generally tend to go more for the epic landscapes.
But every once in a while, when conditions are not there for an epic shot, then I focus on intimate details . . .
On this particular evening
I was in Sedona, and the light just wasn't there! I wanted desperately to take some shots of Bell Rock, but the light just wasn't cooperating. As a landscape photographer, light and atmospheric conditions are EVERYTHING. If you do not have great light, and if you do not have a great sky, then you do not really have a great epic landscape photograph.
It's all About Mood
In landscape photography, it is all about mood. And on this particular evening, there just wasn't any 'mood' to speak of. My shots of Bell Rock were flat, and I just didn't feel it.
A NEW DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE.
When the light doesn't cooperate, when the weather doesn't cooperate, then it is time to look for those intimate details that provide some sense and commentary on the place you are visiting.
In this particular place, across the highway from Bell Rock in Sedona, Arizona, I was looking for a different perspective. I was looking for something intimate that I could work with. My creativity was such that I saw this beautiful agave plant, and figured, that perhaps I could do something with it.
So I stood above the plant, and in the fading light of day, I took this shot. I put it 'in the bag' so to speak, and wondered if I had caught anything at all!
When I came home, I was going through my photographs and came across this one, and decided to play with it. I decided to tweak it and to see if I could come up with a photograph that I would like.
After some trial and error, I came up with this photograph. I just love the greens and the blues, and the hints of pink and purple along the edges of the leaves, and the overall softness just added to the sense of beauty that I saw in my mind's eye when I took this photograph. And now I get to share it with you!
