Arch in the Slots
It was a beautiful day, clear skies and no rain in the forecast - exactly what you want if you are vising a slot canyon!
I waited in line at Lower Antelope Canyon, waiting for some time in the slot canyon, not knowing what to expect.
I paid for my ticket - and I selected the photographer's tour. What that meant was that I could take my time in the slots, and not be rushed. It also meant that I had a guide. His name was 'Mouse,' and he was also an aspiring photographer.
And so slowly we entered into the slot. It was at first like a small crack in the ground, and we entered almost like going down into a tunnel. And once we were in, we climbed down a set of ladders we were on the slot canyon floor. I was amazed at the beauty of Lower Antelope Canyon. The light, the reflections, it was absolutely out of this world.
As I took photo after photo, I was waiting for that WOW moment, the moment you see something that just begs to be photographed.
Finally, it happened. I turn a corner and here was this arch - here in the slot!
I was mesmerized and set up to take the shot. Mouse, our guide, took out his flute, it was as if he, too, realized that this was the shot of the day.
As the music echoed from his flute and surrounded me in its melody, I took this shot.
I knew right away that was going to be a black and white. The layers of the sandstone stood out and the texture of the sandstone was silky and smooth - just as the haunting tune produced by Mouse beside me.
As the last of the melody echoed along the canyon walls, I turned to Mouse, and he broke into a wide grin, and told me that this was his favorite location in the canyon.
And I understood. And I agreed. It had become my favorite place as well.
Peace,
